Crash into I-5 guardrail kills Sacramento man in Natomas
A driver who entered Interstate 5 in North Natomas at high speed before hitting a guardrail has died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Alan Clint Bennett, 56, of Sacramento was pronounced dead at a hospital at 11:50 p.m. Monday.
Bennett was driving a 1992 Chevrolet Blazer about 6 p.m. Monday when he entered southbound I-5 at Arena Boulevard at high speed, according to a CHP news release. He lost control of his sport-utility vehicle and crossed all freeway lanes before slamming into the center median guardrail.
Officers believe that Bennett was not wearing a seat belt. The SUV was not equipped with air bags.
Bennett was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center, where he died.
A passing car sustained minor damage from flying debris.
