Ex-counselor gets year in jail for sex with juvenile

A judge Thursday sentenced a former counselor at the Children’s Receiving Home to a year in county jail and five years probation for having sex with a client.

Sacramento Superior Court Judge Richard K. Sueyoshi imposed the term on Theresa Caroline Gooch, 25, under the terms of a plea agreement worked out between the district attorney’s and public defender’s offices.

Gooch pleaded no contest last month to having oral sex with a 16-year-old girl at the home, which provides temporary emergency shelter for children who are placed there as a result of neglect and abuse. She also pleaded no contest to furnishing the girl with marijuana.
