Improvised device found burning outside Davis police station

Davis police report that a device meant to harm people was found Monday night outside the department’s headquarters.

Police said that at about 10:15 p.m. Monday a police sergeant saw a small fire burning outside the Police Department’s north gate. The Davis Fire Department responded to the police station at 2600 Fifth St. to extinguish the fire.

“The small fire was determined to be an improvised incendiary device, intended to harm those in close proximity,” a message from police said.

The Yolo County bomb squad and the Police Department’s evidence team were called to the scene. The incident is being investigated by the Police Department in consultation with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
