Sacramento police officer accused of secretly recording women. Folsom PD investigating
An officer with the Sacramento Police Department is under criminal investigation for allegedly recording videos of women in “intimate settings” without their knowledge, according to the Folsom Police Department.
The latter agency in a news release Wednesday evening announced the ongoing investigation into Officer Benjamin Morgan Gray, 31. The Sacramento Police Department in a separate statement said the allegations were brought to its attention in mid-January.
Folsom police said there are multiple potential victims and that investigators believe there could be others who have not come forward.
“The Folsom Police Department is investigating allegations that adult female victims were video recorded during intimate settings without their knowledge,” the investigating agency wrote in its new release. “During the investigation, images of potential victims were discovered.”
The statement did not identify Gray as a police officer, but the Sacramento Police Department in a separate news release later Wednesday evening confirmed his employment. State payroll records collected by Transparent California show Gray has been an officer with the department since 2015.
Police asked anyone who may have been involved in a relationship with Gray in the last three years to contact Det. Gavin Plank at 916-461-6478 or gplank@folsom.ca.us.
The Sacramento Police Department said it was informed of the criminal investigation Jan. 16 and that Gray has been on administrative leave since Jan. 17 in response, “and his peace officer powers were removed.”
The department said it is cooperating with the Folsom Police Department, and that its internal affairs division is also investigating.
Sacramento County jail records did not show Gray in custody as of Thursday morning, and no charges have been filed against him in Sacramento Superior Court.
Folsom police said no additional details are available at this time due to the ongoing investigation and “sensitive nature” of the case.
