Authorities arrested a Sacramento man accused of leading officers on a high-speed chase in a stolen vehicle through Placer and Sacramento counties over the weekend.

The incident began early Sunday morning with an attempted traffic stop by a sheriff’s deputy on westbound Interstate 80 near Riverside Avenue in the Roseville area, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Thursday.

The driver immediately fled, initiating a pursuit.

“The suspect vehicle reached speeds over 100 mph, ran numerous red lights and stop signs, and at one point, drove into oncoming traffic,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote.

The pursuit extended into Sacramento County, at which point Sacramento sheriff’s deputies and a California Highway Patrol helicopter assisted.

The suspect pulled into an apartment complex in Sacramento County and ran inside an apartment unit, Placer sheriff’s officials said, and deputies established a search perimeter. The man eventually exited the apartment and was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect, identified as Manuel Rodriguez Jr., 44, was arrested and booked into the Placer County jail.

Rodriguez was arraigned Wednesday in Placer Superior Court. Prosecutors filed felony charges including vehicle theft, burglary and reckless driving while evading a peace officer

Jail records also show Rodriguez at the time of his arrest had a bench warrant out of Placer County for a felony charge of identity theft involving more than 10 victims, as well as a felony hold from the U.S. Marshals Service for an unspecified charge. He is ineligible for bail.
