Substitute teacher at Sacramento school accused of 2021 sexual assault of Napa woman
A substitute teacher is facing charges of sexual assault stemming from an incident with a woman last August in Napa.
Reuben Reyes, superintendent of the Robla School District, said John Davidson was working as a substitute teacher in a special education class when he was arrested Feb. 17 on the campus of Robla Preschool on the 4300 block of Pinell Street in the Village Green neighborhood of Sacramento.
“The Robla School district was contacted by the Napa Police Department and told that they would be taking Mr. Davidson into custody at his workplace because they had no home address for him,” Reyes said in an email.
According to a press release from Napa police, Davidson is accused of grabbing a woman around her upper body and trying to kiss her on Aug. 25, 2021, in the 2000 block of Redwood Road, Napa. On the same day, Davidson allegedly vandalized a classroom in Sonoma where he was working as a special education teacher at the time, according to authorities. He was fired the following day.
“Davidson had no prior criminal history and Napa detectives are not aware of any similar incidents involving Davidson,” according to the release.
Jail records show Davidson was booked into Napa County jail hours after his arrest and was released the same day on $25,000 bond.
Reyes emphasized that the charges against Davidson are not related to his time at the school district. He added that the district did conduct necessary background checks and researched offender databases before hiring Davidson.
There were no concerns from parents, staff or students about Davidson during his time at the preschool, Reyes said.
“Our preschool program is structured in a way that did not allow Mr. Davidson to be alone with students at any time,” he said. “Two additional staff members were in the classroom with him at all times.”
