Sacramento woman arrested in death of 4-year-old girl, her friend’s daughter

Breaking News

An arrest has been made in the death of a 4-year-old girl earlier this month, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday.

La Kreesha Frederick, 28, was arrested on suspicion of murder and assault resulting in the death of a child under 8, the department said in a news release.

She is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

On Feb. 13, fire personnel responded to Frederick’s home in the 3900 block of 42nd Avenue on reports of an unresponsive child. The child was taken to a local hospital, where a doctor pronounced her dead.

Frederick had been caring for the child since October 2021 at the request of the child’s biological mother, the Sheriff’s Office said. She did not have custody.

“The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is currently investigating the cause and manner of death and will issue a preliminary finding,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

Child Abuse detectives responded and collected evidence, according to a news release.

On Feb. 24, an arrest warrant was issued for Frederick and she was taken into custody. Frederick is being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail and is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
