Man fatally shot on light-rail train identified

Sacramento County Coroner’s officials have identified the man fatally shot late Thursday aboard a light-rail train in downtown Sacramento as Eric D. McCaster, 51, of Sacramento.

McCaster was shot multiple times about 10 p.m. as the Regional Transit light-rail rolled into the Archives Plaza station at 11th and O streets. McCaster managed to exit the train before falling to the sidewalk, say RT officials. He was pronounced dead by first responders minutes later, the first homicide aboard a train in Regional Transit’s history. Two other passengers and the train’s operator were not hurt.

Held in Sacramento County custody is Lynnsey Evakarla Braun, 32, on suspicion of murder in McCaster’s death. Braun was booked Friday by Sacramento Police detectives into the county jail and is expected to be arraigned Monday in Sacramento Superior Court.

An investigation continues into the fatal shooting.
