Woman on Placer County bike path robbed at knifepoint by bicyclist, deputies say

Placer County sheriff’s investigators were looking for an unidentified man riding a bicycle who reportedly held a woman at knifepoint and robbed her earlier this week.

The armed robbery was reported about 1:15 p.m. Monday on a bike path between Alpine Meadows and Olympic Valley, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday in social media posts. The victim told deputies she was hit by a bicyclist who was initially apologetic.

Sheriff’s officials said the man then helped the victim get up from the ground, before he brandished a large buck knife and demanded she hand over her jewelry and cell phone.

The suspect threw away the victim’s cell phone and left the area on his bicycle, heading in a direction toward Truckee, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators described the suspect as a man in his 20s or 30s who was tall with a thin build and wearing athletic style clothing, including a navy-colored jacket and charcoal-colored pants.

The Sheriff’s Office asked anyone with information about this robbery to call its North Lake Tahoe Station Investigations Unit at 530-581-6320.
