CHP K-9 finds 80 pounds of meth and 100,000 fentanyl pills in Sacramento traffic stop
A California Highway Patrol K-9 named Hektor found what is believed to be 80 pounds of methamphetamine and 100,000 fentanyl pills during a traffic stop this week in Sacramento.
The traffic stop occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Monday along the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Northgate Boulevard. A CHP officer pulled over a white Jeep Liberty “for a mechanical violation,” according to a news release from the CHP Valley Division.
The CHP said the officer spotted “several indicators of criminal activity” by the driver and two passengers. The officer then asked for help from the CHP Valley Division K-9 Unit.
A K-9 officer arrived and deployed his canine partner, Hektor, to conduct “an open air sniff” of the vehicle. The dog then alerted the officers to the presence of narcotics. Then, the officers searched the vehicle.
The CHP said the officers discovered about 80 pounds of suspected meth and about 100,000 blue “M30” pills suspected to contain fentanyl. The officers also found an estimated $4,100 in cash in the vehicle.
Luis Alfonso Velarde Lopez, 36, of Winters; Arivi Lopez Gamez, 24, of Winters; and Francisco Javier Gonzalez, 29, of Huntington Park, were in the Jeep Liberty. The CHP said all three were arrested on suspicion of possessing and transporting suspected fentanyl pills and meth for sale. They were booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail.
