Crews contain grass fire on parkway near Howe, Northrop avenues
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and Sacramento Fire Department crews have mainly contained a grass fire Tuesday afternoon on the American River Parkway near Howe and Northrop avenues.
The fire threatened a nearby apartment complex and two bike trails. Crews are trying to fully extinguish the blaze in thick vegetation. Crews deployed five engines and a dozer to fight the blaze and have been forced to using a water source a quarter mile away from the fire.
Nearby power lines are preventing a helicopter from being used, the department said. As a result, the department is letting the fire burn out.
