Update: Coroner’s Office identifies driver killed in Elk Grove SUV crash

A man killed Wednesday night when his speeding sport-utility vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree along Elk Grove Boulevard has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Michael Thomas Lyttle, 25, of Elk Grove.

Lyttle was westbound on Elk Grove Boulevard about 11:30 p.m. at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his Jeep Grand Cherokee, according to Elk Grove Police Officer Christopher Trim. The SUV veered off the road to the right and struck a tree along the sidewalk near Waterfowl Drive.

The vehicle burst into flames and was later extinguished by firefighters. The roadway was reopened after a lengthy shutdown.
