A man accused of domestic battery and carjacking at gunpoint in the parking lot of a Rocklin In-N-Out Burger was arrested after a high-speed chase ending in Nevada, authorities said.

The vehicle, a white Nissan sedan with Kentucky license plates, was stopped in the parking lot of the Rocklin Crossings shopping center near In-N-Out when an “altercation” started between a male passenger and the female driver, the Rocklin Police Department said in a news release.

The passenger pointed a handgun at the driver, then forced her, a second woman and a child to exit the vehicle. The suspect moved into the driver’s seat and drove off with a third woman still inside the vehicle, police wrote.

Detectives determined the group had been traveling from the East Bay to Missouri on Interstate 80. Rocklin police along with other local law enforcement agencies located the vehicle on eastbound I-80 between Truckee and Reno, according to the news release, and contacted the Nevada State Police.

Nevada officers located the Nissan and attempted to stop it, but the driver refused to pull over, leading to a 40-mile pursuit in Nevada that reached speeds as high as 120 mph, Rocklin police wrote.

“During the pursuit, the suspect tossed a handgun out of the vehicle window before eventually yielding,” the news release said.

Nevada State Police took the suspect into custody without further incident. The passenger was found safe, Rocklin police said.

The relationships among the vehicle’s occupants was not entirely clear, but the Police Department said the suspect is accused of assault with a deadly weapon, battery upon a spouse or cohabitant, and child endangerment in connection with the incident in Rocklin.

The Police Department news release did not name the suspect, and it was not clear whether he is in custody in California or Nevada.
