Woodland police arrest two accused of stealing $1,900 in makeup and leading car chase

Police arrested two Sacramento residents Saturday after they allegedly stole nearly $2,000 in makeup before leading officers on a car chase, according to the Woodland Police Department.



The chase began at a Rite Aid on West Main Street, after employees called police to report that a man and a woman “filled two large handbags with makeup,” Woodland police said Saturday night on Facebook.

The employees told dispatchers that the suspects left in a white BMW with paper license plates.

A Woodland police officer spotted the BMW and tried to pull it over, but its driver took off on Interstate 5 toward Sacramento, police said.

The chase ended on Del Paso Road in Sacramento’s Natomas neighborhood, where officers arrested Dashawn Dewitt Jr, 19, and Anaya Anderson, 20, police said.

Officers booked the two Sacramento residents into the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of grand theft and conspiracy to commit a crime.



Dewitt also faces charges of felony evading; he also had outstanding misdemeanor and felony warrants, police said.

The bags of makeup police found in the BMW contained an estimated $1,900 worth of items, police said.
