Police arrest suspect wanted in robberies at stores in Citrus Heights and Roseville
Police investigators arrested a man suspected in three robberies committed in recent weeks at stores in Citrus Heights and Roseville.
James Michael Sawyers, 45, on Tuesday remained in custody at the Placer County Jail, where he was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail, jail records show. The Roseville Police Department arrested Sawyers and booked him at the jail about 4:30 a.m. March 8.
The Placer County District Attorney’s Office on March 9 filed a criminal complaint against Sawyers, charging him with robbery stemming from a March 7 incident, according to Placer Superior Court records. The robbery charge includes an enhancement alleging Sawyers committed the robbery with the use of a gun.
Prosecutors also charged Sawyers with four counts of drug possession. He pleaded not guilty to the charges at his March 9 arraignment and is scheduled to return to court March 23.
The Citrus Heights Police Department on Tuesday announced in a news release the Sacramento Superior Court issued an arrest warrant for Sawyers for two Citrus Heights robberies that occurred last month.
The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office on March 11 filed a criminal complaint against Sawyers, charging him with two counts of robbery, according to court records.
The first robbery in Citrus Heights occurred Feb. 21 at the Lowe’s home improvement store in the 7800 block of Greenback Lane, and the second robbery occurred the following day at a Walmart store in the 7000 block of Auburn Boulevard. Police said Sawyers committed both robberies by using a “demand note which stated he had a firearm in his possession.”
As Citrus Heights police detectives were investigating last month’s robberies they learned a suspect matching Sawyers’ description committed a robbery at a Walmart in Roseville.
Investigators from both police departments worked together to conduct surveillance of the suspect, which led to Sawyer’s arrest.
