An Auburn man accused of endangering his 2-year-old son while on cocaine was arrested earlier this week at a Placer County gas station, where deputies recovered the child unharmed, authorities said.

Auburn-area deputies were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a report that the 2-year-old boy was missing and that the boy’s father was armed with a knife when he took him, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post Friday morning.

Deputies located the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Abel Mosqueda, and the young boy at a 76 gas station near Highway 49. The boy was uninjured, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A field sobriety test determined Mosqueda to be under the influence of cocaine. The Sheriff’s Office also alleged that Mosqueda destroyed and concealed evidence while being transported to jail.

Deputies arrested Mosqueda, and he was booked into the Placer County Main Jail in Auburn on suspicion of child endangerment, destroying or concealing evidence and two drug-related charges, all misdemeanors.

His bail is set at $15,000, online booking records show.
