Campus police at American River College issue all clear after evacuating over ‘threat’
Campus police at American River College said late Saturday afternoon that it was safe to return to school grounds after they concluded an investigation of a potential threat.
Faculty, staff and students at Sacramento’s American River College received a text alert earlier in the day urging them to evacuate while police assessed the situation.
“Everyone at ARC main campus should vacate the campus immediately due to threat,” the alert cautioned about 1 p.m.
In a statement to the news media, campus leaders said they had canceled classes and events and asked everyone to leave out of an abundance of caution.
The Los Rios Police Department, whose officers handle security for American River and other campuses in California’s second-largest community college district, looked into the threat and gave the all clear for the public to return.
The threat was unrelated to racist threats reported earlier this month in which a former student allegedly targeted American River President Melanie Dixon.
