Deputies shoot armed suspect in Loomis area, Placer County sheriff’s officials say

Deputies shot and injured a suspect who was allegedly armed with a handgun Monday in Placer County, authorities said.

The suspect was transported to a hospital, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. The extent of his injuries and his condition were not released.

The Sheriff’s Office said its deputies responded around 10 a.m. to a home on Lake Forest Drive in the Loomis area after receiving a report of “suspicious circumstances.”

“After several hours of investigation, deputies encountered a male who ran from the home with a handgun,” sheriff’s officials wrote. in a statement posted to Facebook just before 7:30 p.m.

Deputies contacted the suspect and one or more deputies shot him, according to the news release. No deputies were injured.

The South Placer Fire District in a Facebook post said it assisted the Sheriff’s Office during a standoff with a barricaded suspect.

No other details were released. Sheriff’s officials said the investigation remains ongoing.
