All-clear given after bomb threat forces evacuation at Sam’s Club in south Sacramento
A search of a Sam Club retail center that was evacuated Friday night turned up no suspicious devices, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.
Sheriff’s deputies and two bomb-sniffing dogs gave the all-clear to the warehouse store on the 8200 block of Power Inn Road just after 8 p.m., said Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Kionna Rowe.
Deputies were called to the Sam’s Club shortly after 5 p.m. after a person handed a note to a worker that said there was a bomb on the property. Store managers cleared the building of workers and customers as deputies arrived on scene, Rowe and Sam’s Club officials said.
“After being alerted to a potential threat, management alerted authorities and evacuated the club,” said J.D. Byrum, a spokesman for Bentonville, Arkansas-based Walmart, the parent company of Sam’s Club. “No members or associates were hurt and the club has been cleared to reopen.”
Dogs searched the property that straddles East Stockton Boulevard and Calvine Road inside and outside for several hours before clearing the scene.
Could it have been an April Fools’ joke? “Threats of this magnitude are taken seriously,” Rowe said.
