Spectator seriously injured at illegal sideshow in Sacramento. Driver sought by CHP
Authorities are seeking a driver involved in an illegal sideshow display last week in north Sacramento who struck and seriously injured a spectator before fleeing, the California Highway Patrol said.
The sideshow involved about 50 to 60 vehicles spinning doughnuts in an unincorporated area at National Drive and Vista Park Court around 12:20 a.m. Thursday, the CHP North Sacramento office said in a Tuesday social media post.
One vehicle performing stunts, a light blue Dodge Charger, skidded onto the sidewalk and “struck a spectator causing major injury to the pedestrian,” then fled the scene, the CHP wrote.
A brief video clip shared by the CHP shows the Dodge spinning out, as a passenger in a light gray hooded sweatshirt hung out the left rear window and filmed the stunt using a cellphone.
The rear end of the car then kicked out onto the curved sidewalk on Vista Park Court, sending a spectator on foot tumbling backward, the 5-second video clip shows.
The CHP is investigating the crash and seeks the public’s help in identifying the hit-and-run driver.
Authorities urged anyone with information about the incident to contact CHP North Sacramento, at 916-348-3200 during business hours or 916-798-0975 after business hours.
