Mountain lion spotted in east Sacramento

A mountain lion was spotted early Saturday by multiple east Sacramento residents.

Sacramento police said they received reports of a sighting at 1:35 a.m. near 58th and M streets, then again at 3:30 a.m. south on 36th Street from Folsom Boulevard. At 4:05 a.m., a Sacramento police lieutenant watched the mountain lion jump over a chain-link fence at 36th and R streets near Highway 50.

The mountain lion has not been spotted since. Animal Control officials were notified, and an automated phone call was sent to neighbors, advising them of the animal.

East Sacramento resident Dave Kile, 27, said he saw the animal while pulling into his house at 3:30 a.m. on Sasnta Ynez Way.

“It was big ... It looked mature and healthy,” he said.

Kile said he tailed the mountain lion in his vehicle for about 10 minutes before he lost sight of the animal.
