A woman was taken into custody Monday in Placer County, accused of starting a vehicle fire that spread to an occupied cabin.

The incident began around 2:30 p.m., when authorities received reports of a disturbance on Hideaway Loop in Alta, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said in social media posts.

“Home surveillance captured a female suspect setting a vehicle on fire,” sheriff’s officials wrote. “The fire then spread into a cabin where two people were inside.”

The cabin’s occupants escaped without injuries, deputies said. The suspect, described as a woman in her 20s, fled into the woods and was sought for a few hours.

The Sheriff’s Office in an update around 7:45 p.m. said the suspect had been located and taken into custody.

Kristin Kay Deboard, 27, was arrested and booked late Monday into the Auburn Main Jail on a felony charge of arson involving an inhabited structure, Placer County booking logs show. Her bail is set at $150,000.
