Man shot dead at Rosemont home, Sacramento sheriff’s officials say; stepson detained

Breaking News

A large police presence responded to the Rosemont area Thursday morning after a man allegedly shot and killed his stepfather, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s dispatch center received a 911 call shortly after 9 a.m. from a caller who said an “adult member of the family shot another adult family member” at a home in the 3900 block of Avante Way, spokesman Sgt. Rodney Grassmann said.

The shooting victim died inside the residence, Grassmann said. Grassman confirmed the victim is the stepfather of the suspected shooter, whom Grassmann said was detained a short time later not far from the residence.

Sheriff’s officials have not released either man’s identity. The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
