Dad left kids inside California store. Police say he was drunk — five times over the limit
A man who left his children inside a Roseville grocery store while he searched outside for his car keys in March had a blood alcohol level more than five times the legal limit, Roseville police said in a Facebook post Friday, adding a clerk’s quick action that day may have saved lives.
Officers said the man’s blood alcohol was .424 — more than five times the legal limit of .08 — when they were called by a grocery clerk to the store in the 9000 block of Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard March 23. Minutes earlier, the man and his two children, 3, and 5 years old, were in the store when the clerk noticed the man appeared intoxicated, according to police.
When the man misplaced his car keys and went outside to look for them, leaving the children inside, the clerk saw an opportunity, gathered the children into a back office and called officers to the store.
Roseville police arrested the unidentified man on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
“This employee saved them from a potentially tragic accident,” Roseville police said in the post. “This is a reminder to be vigilant about reporting incidents like this. The quick-thinking employee possibly saved lives.”
