Law enforcement agencies in Yolo County teamed up Saturday night to stop a “sideshow” event in Woodland, where people gathered in a few hundred cars around Main Street, police said.

The sideshow reportedly occurred in the 1800 block of East Main Street, near Interstate 5. About 200 to 300 vehicles were gathered there. The Woodland Police Department reported that some drivers were “burning out, speeding, or practicing other kinds of reckless driving behaviors”.

Some people gathered for the sideshow were setting off illegal fireworks, police said. The California Highway Patrol Woodland Area Office and the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office assisted police in responding to the Main Street sideshow. A CHP helicopter also was called to the incident.

Officers and deputies from the three agencies arrived, made traffic stops, issued citations and discouraged “the ongoing unsafe behaviors,” police said. The law enforcement response dispersed the crowd out of the area.

“These unsafe sideshow behaviors will not be permitted in our city,” police said in a social media post. “We continue to work with our partners to discourage and reduce the sideshows in all of Yolo County.”

The previous weekend, officers from four Sacramento-area police agencies impounded 28 vehicles, made nine felony arrests and confiscated four guns as they busted a large “sideshow” event along Northgate Boulevard in Sacramento. The officers also issued 28 citations in connection with the sideshow, police said.
