Roseville High School exits lockdown after report of student with gun on campus

Police tape at crime scene

Roseville High School was placed on lockdown Wednesday after a report of a possible firearm on campus, police and school district officials said.

A student accused of bringing a gun to the high school fled from the campus after being contacted by a school resource officer, school officials said. Authorities detained and arrested the student, then recovered the gun, all off-campus.

Officers are actively investigating the incident, and there is no threat to the school or surrounding areas, the Roseville Police Department said in a social media post shortly after 1:30 p.m. The lockdown has been lifted.

A school resource officer made contact at the campus with a student suspected of stealing a gun, who then ran away from the officer and left the campus, Roseville High School Principal Nicholas Richter said in emails to parents Wednesday morning.

“The officer followed the student and later detained him,” a 10:40 a.m. email to parents read, in part. “The student identified where the gun was discarded. The student was detained, placed under arrest and the stolen gun was located and recovered.

“While this was taking place, staff placed the school in a lockdown and once the student was in custody, the lockdown was lifted.”

The student’s identity was not released.

The Police Department in its statement said more information “will be shared as the facts are determined.”
