Sacramento dad arrested, accused of sending video of himself sexually abusing a child
A tip from Stanislaus County led to the arrest of a Sacramento father accused of sending a video showing him engaged in a sexual act with a small child, sheriff’s officials said.
Investigators with Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested the man Wednesday after serving a search warrant at his home at a north Sacramento County apartment complex, according to a video news release from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office did not release the name of the arrested suspect, fearing disclosing the name could possibly lead others to identify the child sexually abused in the video, said sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Rodney Grassmann.
Just days ago, the Ceres Police Department sent the tip that initiated the child pornography investigation in Sacramento County. The tip indicated that an adult Ceres resident was communicating with a 25-year-old man living in Sacramento. The two adults had been using their cell phones to exchange adult porn.
Grassmann said the Sacramento resident then sent a video via text message that depicted the suspect in a sex act with a small girl who appeared to be from 2 to 4 years old. The Ceres resident then notified police and told them about the video with the girl.
The man suspected of sending the video did not specifically indicate that the girl in the video was his daughter, but records showed the suspect arrested does have a daughter who is nearly 3 years old, Grassmann said.
A Ceres police detective noticed some similarities between the girl in the video and the suspect’s daughter, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Grassmann said task force investigators on Wednesday collected evidence that showed the female child victim in the alleged sex abuse also lived in the Sacramento home with the suspect. The man suspected of sending the video was then arrested on suspicion of producing and distributing child porn.
