Man found dead after shots-fired report in South Sacramento is identified

A man found dead in a damaged vehicle late Tuesday morning in south Sacramento has been identified by the Sacramento County coroner.

The coroner’s website lists him Amando Gonzales, 44, of Sacramento.

The circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation by the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department.

Around 11 a.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to a report of shots fired near the intersection of Golden Meadow Drive and Stevenson Avenue. At the scene, they found multiple bullet casings, but no victims, according to Lisa Bowman, a spokeswoman for the department.

About 45 minutes later, a waste management employee called authorities after seeing a man slumped over in a damaged vehicle near the 8000 block of Spring Garden Way – less than a mile away from the earlier shots-fired report.

The man was pronounced dead on the scene, and the ongoing investigation is centered on the likely tie between the reported shots and subsequent discovery of the Sacramento man’s body.
