Homicide detectives on Friday were seeking tips from the public about a shooting that killed a man found near a housing complex in south Sacramento in the Lemon Hill neighborhood.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, authorities received a call reporting a person on a sidewalk in the 5100 block of Southwest Avenue, just west of Stockton Boulevard, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday in a news release.

Deputies arrived at the scene and found the man suffering from at least one gunshot wound, sheriff’s officials said. The deputies began performing life-saving measures on the wounded man, but medics from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District arrived shortly after and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name after his family has been notified.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene, questioned witnesses and gathered evidence. Sheriff’s officials said there was no further information available about the shooting or suspect.
