Police in the Sierra resort town of Truckee arrested a man wanted in Alaska for alleged sexual abuse of a minor. The capture of the man was part of a larger task force that looks for fugitives across the state, authorities said.

The man was the subject of a no-bail warrant in Alaska. California’s Fugitive Apprehension Team — which is overseen by the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation — asked California Highway Patrol’s Valley Division for assistance in finding the suspect, the CHP said a statement about Thursday’s arrest.

Personnel from CHP’s Truckee office as well as Valley Division K-9 units and the Truckee Police Department canvassed the area where the man was believed to be. A tip led a sergeant from the CHP and a member of the Fugitive Apprehension Team to a grocery store on the 11000 block of Donner Pass Road around 11:30 a.m. where the man was found and detained “without incident,” according to the release.

The man was identified by Nevada County Jail booking records as David Keith Swendiman, 54, of Anchorage, Alaska. He remains in the jail in Nevada City without bail.

According to the Anchorage Police Department, Swendiman was wanted for an assault that allegedly occurred in 2016.
