100 mph chase in Placer County ends after suspect’s vehicle crashes at Auburn City Hall
A vehicle chase involving Placer County Sheriff’s Office deputies and a suspect ended early morning Monday after the suspect’s car crashed in front of Auburn City Hall.
About 1:30 a.m., deputies began their pursuit of the suspect in a black Honda Civic coupe, reaching speeds over 100 mph along Highway 49, according to Auburn Police Department officials.
After the crash, the driver of the Civic ran away. Sheriff’s deputies, Auburn police and officers with the California Highway Patrol established a perimeter around the area, and were able to locate the suspect near Auburn Folsom Road and Lincoln Way.
The suspect, who was identified as Patrick Aquino Gonzales, 41, was subsequently arrested, according to the police department.
Gonzales faces charges of evading a peace officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of tear gas and burglary tools, according to Placer jail records. His bail is set at $235,000.
