Sacramento high school locked down briefly after student fires Airsoft gun on campus
A Grant Union High School student who brought an Airsoft gun onto the North Sacramento campus Thursday afternoon and briefly threw the school into lockdown was detained by Twin Rivers police.
Officers were alerted by another student who reportedly saw the weapon. Officers recovered the gun and detained a student for allegedly discharging the weapon, Twin Rivers Unified School District officials said in a statement.
Twin Rivers Unified School District officials said they are investigating the incident.
The campus in the Del Paso Heights section of the city went into lockdown about 1:45 p.m., said district spokeswoman Zenobia Gerald. The lockdown lasted about an hour.
“We are grateful for the student who reported what they saw and would like to take this opportunity to remind parents to talk to their children,” district officials said in the statement. “Weapons of any kind are never allowed on school campuses, and there are serious consequences for students who are found in possession of a weapon.”
