Arson suspect arrested after fire on exterior of Woodland Public Library, police say
Police arrested a man on suspicion of arson following a fire early Tuesday morning along an exterior wall at the Woodland Public Library, authorities said.
Law enforcement and firefighters responded around 1:50 a.m. to the library, just off of Main and College streets, and located a “fire of miscellaneous items ... swiftly burning up the side of the stucco wall,” the Woodland Police Department said in a Facebook post. Photos from the fire showed an assortment of garbage bags and trash near the scorched wall.
A 911 caller described a suspect seen walking away from the fire, according to the post. Officers located a man matching the description, identified as 27-year-old Joel Michel of Woodland, who was arrested on suspicion of arson.
Michel was booked early Tuesday into the Monroe Detention Center in Woodland, jail logs show.
No injuries or serious damage were reported in the fire.
