in the courts

A man pleaded guilty last week to sexually assaulting four young children beginning in 2006, Sacramento County prosecutors said.

He now faces more than 20 years to life in prison.

Miguel Orozco, 42, pleaded guilty to sexual penetration or oral copulation of a child younger than 10 and multiple counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child younger than 14, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said in a Wednesday news release.

Orozco gained access to the victims through a daycare his girlfriend operated at her apartment, prosecutors said.

He sexually assaulted four children from 2006 to 2012. Two victims were 4 years old when the abuse started, according to the news release. The third victim was 5 years old at the time, and the fourth was 7 years old.

Orozco, who was arrested and arraigned in October 2018, entered his guilty plea last Thursday after more than three years of court proceedings.

He faces a maximum of 22 years to life in prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office, and is scheduled for sentencing July 13.
