Escape from Sacramento airport: Man wiggles out of handcuffs, runs from deputies
A man who gave deputies the slip after being arrested at Sacramento International Airport is being sought by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
The man, who was not identified by authorities, was a traveler arrested on suspicion of drug-related charges at a TSA checkpoint about 1:45 p.m., according to Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Kionna Rowe.
As deputies escorted the man out of the terminal and into a patrol car, Rowe said, the man was able to get one of his hands out of the handcuffs and bolted from deputies.
The Sheriff’s Office set up a perimeter, using additional deputies to scour airport facilities, including parking garages, at SMF before calling off the search, Rowe said.
Rowe and spokesman Sgt. Rod Grassmann said Sunday the man was still at large, but deputies had held on to his ID card. The Sheriff’s Office was obtaining a warrant to apprehend the man, who faces additional charges once back in custody.
