A woman died at a hospital after she was gravely wounded in a shooting Friday morning at the 49er Travel Plaza in an unincorporated area of Sacramento near Natomas.
About 3:45 a.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to the shooting inside the Interstate 80 truck stop in the 2800 block of El Centro Road, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived and learned that an on-duty employee had shot a woman, who suffered life-threatening injuries.
The woman, who was shot in the abdomen, was taken by ambulance to a hospital, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Kionna Rowe. The wounded woman died hours later, the Sheriff’s Office announced in a news release Friday evening.

The facility’s general store, where the shooting occurred, and the adjacent diner were closed following the shooting. They remained closed as of noon Friday.
