Rio Americano High School football player robbed, pistol whipped
Sacramento County Sheriff’s Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of Jacob Lane around 5:30 a.m. on Friday after a call came in that a Rio Americano High School student had been attacked and robbed on his way to football practice.
The 17-year-old was riding his scooter when a car with two young men pulled up next to him and the passenger asked where they could find the nearest McDonald’s, according to Wilhaggin-Del Dayo Neighborhood Association communications director Kathleen Newton. When the teen stopped to answer, Newton said the man jumped out of the car and pointed a firearm at the teen’s face.
Sgt. Kionna Rowe said one suspect struck the teenager with the gun during the attack and the boy’s scooter was stolen. The victim was not identified by police.
“(My son) is still somewhat in shock, has a bump on his head, but is otherwise fine,” the teen’s mother said in a news alert from the neighborhood association.
Newton said the teen’s father later found the scooter broken into pieces in a gutter.
The Wilhaggin Del Dayo Neighborhood Association is a voluntary, nonprofit organization with over 1,000 households as members and “exists for the sole purpose of hiring off-duty sheriff’s department deputies to patrol our streets,” Newton said.
Anyone who has information related to the crime is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department at (916) 874-5115.
