A suspect was taken into custody after an hourslong standoff at an apartment complex in Cameron Park Friday morning following a report of a verbal altercation and a suspicious shot heard, according to authorities.

El Dorado sheriff’s officers evacuated the complex on La Crescenta Drive and attempted to make contact with the suspect, according to a Facebook post by the sheriff’s office. Officers found a gun outside of the suspect’s apartment.

Officials said the suspect barricaded himself in his apartment and refused to surrender while making threats to law enforcement.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team took over the incident and attempted to establish communication and directed the suspect to surrender peacefully, but a standoff ensued for several hours, the department said.

After the use of many law enforcement resources, officials said the suspect was taken into custody safely around 11:30 a.m.

The sheriff’s department said the identity of the suspect will be released when positive identification has been confirmed. They said that this is an ongoing investigation, and they had no further details or information to provide as of Saturday afternoon.
