Officers arrested two fleeing suspects Sunday morning in Woodland, police said, one of whom was found hiding in a residential garbage can.

The incident began with an attempted traffic stop about 10 a.m. for a vehicle with no license plates near West El Dorado Drive and Ashley Avenue, the Woodland Police Department said in a social media post.

Authorities said the male passenger, who then fled on foot, was ultimately found inside a garbage can on the side of a residence on West El Dorado Drive. Police said they also found a stolen Glock handgun in the backyard of the same residence.

The driver fled in the vehicle, a BMW, but was stopped a short time later at a nearby intersection close to Gibson Elementary School, according to the post.

Police arrested the passenger for possession of a stolen firearm and high-capacity magazines, as well as resisting a peace officer. The department’s Facebook post included a photo showing the gun with three magazines, one of them extended, on top of a plastic Walmart bag.

The driver was arrested for warrants and fleeing a peace officer, authorities said.

Neither suspect was identified in the Facebook post.
