Police detained and arrested a 13-year-old boy suspected of burglarizing Freeman Elementary School early the morning of Wednesday, July 27, in Woodland, California. At least one other juvenile was believed to have been involved.

Woodland police arrested a 13-year-old boy suspected of burglarizing an elementary school early Wednesday morning, while at least one other juvenile believed to have taken part in the burglary was not located, authorities said.

An officer around 3 a.m. noticed a bicyclist riding west on West Woodland Avenue near North West Street, without proper lighting on his bicycle, the Woodland Police Department said in a Facebook post.

The teen bicyclist fled from the officer on the bike and then on foot, police said. He was ultimately found hiding in bushes, located with property determined to have been stolen from Freeman Elementary School.

Officers were notified just moments after detaining the juvenile that personnel at Freeman Elementary had witnessed people on the campus who had fled after being seen.

Property found on the juvenile matched items that had been stolen from a classroom at the school, according to the Police Department post.

A photo of stolen property laid out on the hood of a police cruiser showed a sticker-covered laptop marked with the seal for Woodland Joint Unified School District, as well as several bags of potato chips.

The boy, who was not identified by law enforcement, was booked into the Yolo County Juvenile Detention Center on charges of burglary and resisting arrest, police said.

“This is an active investigation as there is at least one additional juvenile that has been identified as participating in this burglary,” the Police Department wrote.
