Woman arrested after attempting to kidnap 4-year-old child from Oroville preschool

A woman was arrested on Thursday for attempting to kidnap a 4-year-old child from a Butte County preschool, the Oroville Police department announced in a news release.

Dezirae Guthrie, 41, walked into A Bright Starr Preschool at 1276 Feather River Blvd. on Thursday morning, claiming her daughter attended the school. Once inside, she attempted to persuade a 4-year-old child to come outside with her.

School officials intervened to stop Guthrie from taking the child, who was unharmed. Oroville Police were dispatched to the school around 12:20 p.m., according to the release.

Police located Guthrie based on witness descriptions. She was detained without incident and booked into the Butte County Jail for attempted kidnapping, with bail set at $60,000.
