Vehicle explodes, leaving 2 hurt. Here’s where — and what Sacramento police think caused it
A vehicle exploded Saturday afternoon in Del Paso Park, injuring two people and forcing the closure of a stretch of Roseville Road.
Sacramento Police Department officers responded about 1 p.m. to Roseville Road and Connie Drive on a request for medical aid. They found evidence of “an explosion in a vehicle.”
One man was taken to a hospital with significant but non-life-threatening injuries. A woman determined to have been a passenger was hospitalized as a precaution.
Officers believe the explosion was caused by “the accidental detonation of some type of illegal firework or similar device,” Sacramento police spokesman Officer Chad Lewis said. The department’s explosives unit is conducting a further investigation.
Roseville Road remained closed as of mid-afternoon between Connie Drive and Tri Stations Road.
