Rocklin police arrest parolee suspected of arson in three fires near Sierra College

Officers arrested a wanted parolee suspected of igniting three vegetation fires in Rocklin Thursday night before resisting arrest and assaulting an officer, police said.

Cody Lee McKie, 31, was arrested on suspicion of arson, obstructing or resisting a police officer and violating parole, according to Placer County Jail records. He remained in custody Friday at the jail, where he was being held without bail for the alleged parole violation.

Shortly after 7 p.m., officers were called to the area of 4800 Sierra College Boulevard, just south of Schriber Way. The officers arrived and assisted the Rocklin Fire Department as it extinguished the fires, the Rocklin Police Department announced Friday in social media posts.

About 20 minutes after the first two fires were reported, officers received a report of the third vegetation fire in the area of Rocklin Road and El Don Drive, just south of Sierra College less than a mile away from the first fires.

Officers arrived and found a witness who reported seeing a person walking away from the area of the fire near Rocklin and El Don. Police said the officers found the suspect, later identified as McKie, and tried to detain him for questioning.

McKie resisted arrest and assaulted an officer as he was being taken into custody, according to the Police Department. Officers learned that McKie was on parole and had a warrant for his arrest on suspicion of violation of parole.

Police said investigators found evidence indicating McKie was the suspect who started the fires.
