Victim of fatal hit-and-run in south Sacramento identified; police looking for suspect

A man was killed early Saturday in a hit-and-run in south Sacramento.

Officers were called to the area of La Mancha Way and Elder Court about midnight on reports of a person lying injured in the street, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

The driver left before officers arrived, the department stated.

Sacramento Fire Department personnel took the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. On Sunday night, the Coroner’s Office identified him as Richard Albert Tam, 48, of Sacramento.

Detectives from the Major Collisions Investigation Unit took over the investigation and canvassed the area for evidence, witnesses and surveillance footage, according to the Police Department.

The circumstances remain under investigation and suspect information is unknown, according to the department.
