One dead, two hurt in a crash near Truckee. CHP says a truck veered into opposing traffic

Roadway fatality

An early-afternoon collision involving four vehicles near Truckee and Tahoe City left one person dead and two more injured, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred about 1:20 p.m. Friday on Highway 89.

A 43-year-old man from Vallejo, driving a white International box truck and going north at an undetermined speed, crossed over solid double yellow lines and hit three cars headed south, the CHP reported.

The truck sideswiped two of the vehicles and struck another head on.

A 37-year-old from Olympic Valley, driving a white Suburu, was killed.

Others involved included a 42-year-old resident of Tempe, Arizona, who was driving a black Ford EcoSport, and a 42-year-old Truckee resident driving a black Suburu Outback.

The driver of the black Suburu and a passenger in the box truck were taken to Tahoe Forest Hospital with minor injuries.

Drugs or alcohol currently do not appear to be factors, but the crash remains under investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Officer D. Lack at the CHP’s Truckee office by calling 530-563-9200.
