A Yuba City High School student was arrested Thursday and booked into juvenile hall after allegedly sending a threatening photo of a gun to another student, police said.

School officials learned of the threat made by the suspect, a 16-year-old boy, late Wednesday evening and reported it to authorities, the Yuba City Police Department said in a news release.

The student allegedly sent the threat to a girl who is also a student at Yuba City High. Police said the incident appeared to be isolated, with no other students involved.

Police identified the boy using one of his social media accounts and arrested him Thursday morning before the beginning of school, according to the news release.

Officers searched the teen’s room and determined the weapon used in the photo was an airsoft gun, and that the boy “did not have access to a real firearm,” the Police Department said.

The teen was booked into the Tri-County Juvenile Hall of Yuba, Sutter and Colusa counties. His identity was not released.

The Police Department said the case would be forwarded to the Sutter County Probation Department.
