The body recovered Saturday in the Sacramento River near the I Street Bridge is that of a man who drowned Wednesday, authorities said.
The man, in his 20s, is believed to have drowned in the American River near Tiscornia Park north of downtown Sacramento. According to the Sacramento Fire Department, the victim was trying to swim across the river when he went underwater and did not resurface.
Fire spokesman Chris Harvey said crews recovered the body about 3 p.m. Saturday after it was spotted in the Sacramento River.
Harvey said the death is not considered suspicious and that no criminal charges are being pursued. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office was investigating.
