Authorities on Wednesday located and took into custody an inmate who escaped one week earlier from the exercise yard of a Northern California jail.

Deputies and detectives found Miles Bondley, 34, in the south Oroville area shortly before 6:15 p.m. and arrested him, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Bondley had been at large since the evening of Aug. 31, when the Sheriff’s Office said he escaped from a “fully-enclosed, high security exercise yard” at the Butte County Jail in Oroville.

He had been incarcerated while pending trial on 16 charges, 11 of them felonies, including counts of burglary, domestic violence, stalking, assault with a deadly weapon, attempted arson and witness intimidation, Butte Superior Court records show. Bondley pleaded not guilty to all charges in December.

The Sheriff’s Office said it was investigating how Bondley managed to escape the exercise yard.
