Sacramento police investigate suspicious death; man with gunshot wound found at motel

Police tape at crime scene

Detectives continue to investigate a homicide after medics responding to a call for help Wednesday found a man dead with a gunshot wound at a Sacramento motel.

At 11:25 a.m., officers were called to the Executive Inn and Suites in the 200 block of Bannon Street, just south of Richards Boulevard and east of Interstate 5 in the River District.

Medics from the Sacramento Fire Department had responded to the motel for a medical aid call and found the man dead with at least one gunshot wound, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators took over the investigation, canvassing the area for evidence and witnesses. In a news release Thursday, police said the circumstances of what led to the man’s shooting death remained under investigation, and there was no suspect information to release.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s name after his family has been notified.

Investigators asked anyone with information about this homicide to call officers at 916-264-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the P3 Tips website and app.
