Southern California man dies in Yolo County I-5 crash
A Southern California man died when his car left the freeway in Yolo County and struck a guardrail and fence before overturning.
Edward Stephen Burns, 48, of Nuevo, Riverside County, was driving north on Interstate 5, south of County Line Road near Dunnigan, at high speed about 8:15 a.m. Sunday when he steered to the right as if making a lane change.
His sport utility vehicle continued onto the right shoulder of the freeway, where the SUV hit a guardrail and then a fence. The SUV then rolled perhaps two times, coming to rest on its wheels in a dry creek bed, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Burns died from his injuries. A passenger suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a hospital.
Both were wearing seat belts.
